Reflection Meeting: Gede’s Education and Community Development Programme

One component of the Education and Community Development Programme is the establishment of School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Cross River State.

The body meets quarterly to deliberate issues around the Project. The meeting took place on July 2, 2025 at Mfamosing Community.

SBMC members include representatives of major stakeholders such as Community Heads, School Heads, Teachers, Ministry of Education, School Management Boards, CBOs, Students, Parents/Caregivers, Lafarge Africa Plc and Gede Foundation.  The aim is to provide a forum that promotes inclusive development for students, and the 10 rural communities where the Project is being implement.

The SBMC supports Project monitoring and explore avenues for development and sustainability.

Gede Foundation (an implementing partner) convened the meeting and provided reports on activities within the period under review.

Inputs were received from participants as well as recommendations for future growth.

One major recommendation at the meeting was the engagement of educators within the communities, to support the adopt-a-school initiative (with 1620 pupils enrolled), and to address the challenges faced by NYSC members posted to the rural communities.

This forum is creating the needed possibilities for project ownership, and to help in ‘scale up’ beyond project cycle.

Goodwill messages were received from the Government Agencies, Community Heads, School Heads and Students.

The Project is funded by Lafarge Africa Plc.
